Do you “Heart” Book Club?

I am a giant fan of book clubs. I take offense to the idea that book club is a time to drink wine and grip about men. For me book club is a time to have intelligent conversations about books—at least for an hour—and then we grip about men :) No, we don’t—we gripe about kids :)

I love to hear what my friends have to stay about stories, because everyone has a different perspective. Sometimes I go into book club with an opinion of the book, only to change my mind after talking about it.

I love book club so much that I’m belong to two. One I’ve been in for seven years, and even after I moved away I couldn’t give it up—but I didn’t move far…only 6 blocks. The other book club is one I started in my new neighborhood—we’ve been at it for two years.

I’ve found that book club is the best way to get to know people. You can tell a lot about someone by what they like and dislike in books.

So does anyone else belong to a book club? Do you love it? Hate it? I’m so curious.

No book club here. It would be nice, but then I'd have to actually leave the house :-)

I've never been in a book club. I love reading but I guess for me it's more of a private thing. Something I enjoy just with myself.

Maybe someday...

I miss book club so much. I've been in one up until the last two years. :( Maybe I'll start my own. :) Great reminder for me.

I want to join a book club! There aren't any where I live, so I've thought about pulling a group together. I'll get around to it eventually...

I used to belong to one but I stopped going after awhile because most of the time people showed up not even having read the book! And then the conversations would swerve too far afield. Too frustrating. :(

I don't, but have thought about it. It's a nice way to read books you wouldn't normally read. Have you read Kristin Hannah's "Winter Garden" -- one of the best novels I've read. Just thought I'd share. Have come to know her and she is so sweet.

I heart book clubs. I have a small one that hasn't been able to meet because of kids and holidays to come, but when we gather and discuss books...oh the joy I have is so great. Plus, book clubs are great ways for authors to get some great word-of-mouth marketing. So Go Book Clubs!

I *heart* book clubs. I'm not in one right now, but my crit group invited me to theirs. I had to decline for now with the current load of school and other callings. Hopefully I can start up soon tho. They're so much fun!

I would love to be a part of a book club. But, alas I don't know anyone in Portland that likes books. Glad you have yours!!
